A Cleaner Self Care Routine: How You Can Make Room For Organic Beauty
Posted on December 06 2020
Organic beauty has always been a staple in J-beauty. Natural ingredients (such as green tea, red algae and rice bran) have been major players in Japanese beauty routines for hundreds of years, and are still commonly found in products today!
However, with the incredible amount of esteemed skincare and beauty products available that are not organic, you may find yourself wondering if replacing your usual regime with organic products is worth it. To that I would ask you to consider that same question in regards to your food. We eat organic fruits and vegetables to avoid chemicals and better our overall health. So, if we’re concerned about what kinds of substances are absorbed by our internal organs, we should be just as aware of what kinds of substances our skin is absorbing. After all, our skin is our largest organ! And, according to the CDC, cosmetology is one of the major risks of exposure to harmful chemicals on skin.
Using natural products reduces your chance of exposing yourself to chemicals that can penetrate the protective epidermis layer of your skin. Also, organic products are better for the environment! Switching to natural products has enormous health benefits for both you and the planet.
Luckily for us, J-beauty offers an extensive range of natural beauty products! In skin and hair care (and often even makeup), J-beauty prioritizes natural health and wellness. Here are three of my favorite organic products that you can find right here on Cosme Hunt to help detoxify your self care routine.
Green tea goodness
Kitao Matcha Cleansing Cream
When thinking of green tea, most people envision a cozy treat to warm you up on a cold day, or of its deeply symbolic roots in Japanese culture. However, in J-beauty, green tea has historically been a key ingredient in beauty and wellness.
Dermascope states that green tea is an effective anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent when ingested, and it has anti-aging and anti-acne properties when applied to the skin. Green tea is composed of polyphenols, which, as stated in a 2016 study, reduce inflammation and bacteria on the skin’s surface. The study concluded that 85% of its subjects experienced a reduction of skin inflammation after using a green tea moisturizer twice a day for two months.
When looking for a product with green tea in it, make sure that the product is gentle, rather than abrasive. Overly drying products can reverse the positive effects of green tea, making your skin even more irritated than it was prior to using the product. This is why I’ve picked out Kitao Matcha Cleansing Cream. This organic cleansing cream is extremely soft on sensitive skin, and removes dirt and oil while leaving your face feeling supple. For those just starting on their natural skincare journey, Kitao Matcha Cleansing cream, alongside the entire Kitao line we have on our site, is a perfect place to start! This cleanser’s simple and straightforward ingredients makes approaching the world of organic beauty an easy feat.
For silky, healthy hair
THE PUBLIC ORGANIC Orange & Eucalyptus Shampoo
A vital element of J-beauty is its focus on protecting your skin and hair from harsh environments. This means many shampoos and hair treatments are created with high quality oils, which shield your locks from heat damage and bring life into dull hair!
One of the most popular and effective oils used in hair care is sunflower seed oil. This oil contains a large amount of Vitamin E, which, according to a 2010 study, is proven to improve hair growth. Sunflower seed oil’s quantities of oleic and linoleic acids help repair split ends and encourage silkier hair.
The Public Organic is my favorite pick for natural and organic hair care. Their shampoo is made with sunflower seed oil and powerful amino acids, as well as 100% organic essential oils which gives it its luxurious scent. To get the full benefits of this shampoo, leave it in your hair for 5 minutes before rinsing, then follow with the Orange and Eucalyptus Hair Treatment to seal in moisture.
Make space for makeup!
ANGFA Mascara (Black)
Natural beauty isn’t limited to just skin and hair care! In the last ten years, makeup has made huge waves in the realm of beauty, and for good reasons. Many non-organic makeup products have silicone in them, which, according to the Canadian Cosmetics Regulation website, can damage the environment.
Amidst the major 2020 trend of long, luscious lashes, non-organic fiber mascaras have become increasingly popular. However, a rising problem fiber mascara users face is the issue of flaking. Because of its structure, fiber crumbles easily, and bits of mascara can fall into your eye, which may put you at a greater risk of infection.
Makeup should work for you, not against you! With that in mind, I recommend trying ANGFA Mascara. This product is void of some of the most common and harmful ingredients in non-natural and non-organic products (such as Paraben, synthetic fragrance, synthetic coloring, and fiber). It’s made with the same ingredients as ANGFA’s Scalp-D eyelash serum, so your lashes look good as they grow!
ANGFA Mascara contains cetanol, beeswax, and stearic acid, which helps hold your lashes’ curl without clumping.
Where should I go from here?
Your self care routine can be one of the most calming and personal moments of your day. Whether I’m just beginning my morning or winding down at night, I always promise myself to set aside time to look after my body. It’s one of the nicest things we can do for ourselves! We deserve to feel healthy and clean after our daily routine. Sometimes, non-organic products can make that practice harder, or can even cause us to feel worse.
Organic products have never been easier to access, but with such an overwhelming quantity to choose from, it can feel intimidating to decide which products are really worth investing in. Cosme Hunt’s high quality, organic products have been specially curated to make this decision easier.
