Community Spotlight: Japanese Hair Care with Tami
Posted on October 19 2020
Scrolling through the endless world of Japanese beauty products can be daunting at times, but luckily for you, our team members at CosmeHunt pride ourselves at being experts in the J-beauty world! I sat down with one of our community’s beloved members Tami for a little (virtual) coffee chat about her journey in the J-beauty world, and more specifically, how she maintains her luscious hair:
Thank you for chatting with me! Before we dive into your hair care routine, could you tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do at CosmeHunt
Sure! I'm a senior Economics major at Pomona College and have been interning at CosmeHunt for about a month now. I’m half German and half Japanese, which meant that I had the opportunity to grow up in both countries and be exposed to both cultures. In my free time, I love going out to eat with my friends and enjoying the sunny Southern California weather.
Interesting! You mentioned that you grew up in both Germany and Japan. Is that how you discovered J-beauty?
Because I was born in Japan, J-beauty has always been in my life. I have been using some of the most iconic J-beauty brands, like Shu Uemura, Shiseido, Cle de Peau, and SK-II, for as early as I can remember. It wasn't until I moved to Germany that I realised how much I relied on J-beauty products, since it was hard for me to get my hands on my favorite Japanese brands abroad.
Like many other companies, our team has been meeting on Zoom a lot recently. But even in the tiny little pixelated screen on my computer, your hair always looks so incredibly soft and silky! What’s your secret?
Actually, I have done everything imaginable to my hair! I’ve bleached it, highlighted it, and even colored it pitch black from time to time. Living in sunny Southern California, I’ve also realized that the sun might have also added further damage to my hair too, since I spend a lot of time outdoors and surfing at the beach.
Wow! Sounds like your hair has endured quite a bit. What do you do to keep your hair healthy and smooth? Do you have any particular products you use as part of your routine?
People like to debate whether or not you should wash your hair everyday or every couple of days, but I’ve realized that for my hair, it’s actually best to wash everyday. I currently use the shampoo for fine hair by John Masters Organics. I really like this particular shampoo because it leaves my hair feeling voluminous and clean, without any crazy chemicals that would add additional damage. But I’m still on the journey to find my perfect shampoo!
Then, I usually follow up with Shu Uemura’s Ultimate Reset Conditioner, which helps repair and hydrate my sun-damaged hair. My conditioner has been exceptional because it does a great job at leaving my hair shiny and moisturized without making it too greasy. Most importantly, it also helps with the appearance of my split ends!
But the real hero for my hair is the &honey Deep Moist Hair Oil! As the final step of my routine, I usually put &honey hair oil into my hair and let my hair naturally air dry. I originally started using this product because I fell for the cute packaging. After using this hair oil for a while, I’ve come to love how moisturising it feels without making my hair feel greasy. I also love the smell, since the fragrance isn’t too strong. All I have to do is put a pump or two at the ends of my hair and my hair starts to feel and look healthy almost instantly!
Looks like the &honey hair oil is a real saving grace for you! Before we end the interview, do you have any favorite hair styling tips that you want to share with our readers?
Always brush your hair before shampoo and conditioner! Brushing your wet hair, especially if you have breakage-prone hair like me will usually make it worse.
And that’s a wrap on Tami’s hair secrets! If you want to try out Tami’s hair routine at home, the &honey Deep Moist Hair Oil is available for purchase at CosmeHunt.com. Need a little more hair help? We've got you covered with &honey's Moisture Shampoo, Moisture Treatment, and Deep Moist Hair Pack, also available on our website.
